Workshop on Protection of Minors and Vulnerable Adults

23 November, 2020

On Friday 13th November, 2020 at St.  Mark Catholic School Ashongman Estate, Accra, we had a brief awareness/workshop on the protection of minors and vulnerable adults for the JHS 2 students and their form teacher.

We asked the students what they understood about child abuse, the right of the child, and who a child is and who are the vulnerable adults. We highlighted the various forms of child abuse: physical, emotional, sexual, psychological, verbal, and neglect. We looked at the symptoms and signs and the effects and also how they abuse themselves through peer pressure and bullying and how they can help and protect themselves and others through the appropriate channels.

We noted the church’s response “There is no place in the ministry of the church for those who commit such abuses…” and the penalties for such crimes under the Ghanaian law.

The students asked questions and made contributions, and we did our best to respond to them. This forum was facilitated by Sr Atochi Jennifer Foby, SHCJ and Sr Felicity Amikiya, SHCJ.
