Congratulations to Ann Durst, SHCJ! Sister Ann received the 2017 Outstanding Fundraising Volunteer Award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals – San Diego.

On Tuesday, November 13, approximately 1,200 philanthropists, development professionals, and community members honored a total of seven organizations and individuals, including Sister Ann for her work at Casa Cornelia Law Center.

Founded by the Holy Child Sisters in 1993, Casa Cornelia Law Center is a public interest law firm providing quality legal services to victims of human and civil rights violations. Casa Cornelia has a primary commitment to indigent persons within the immigrant community in Southern California. It seeks to educate others regarding the impact of immigration law and policy on the community and the public good. The Center’s mission is rooted in the Holy Child Sisters’ mission to rejoice in God’s presence and to help people believe that God lives and acts in them and in our world.

Sister Ann served a significant role in establishing and directing Casa Cornelia Law Center. Today, she continues to minister at Casa Cornelia by building awareness of the Center’s programs and its impact and raising funds. In the video below, Sister Ann reflects on the work of the Law Center and the challenges of communicating to a wider audience on the importance of helping others. Sister Ann shares, “…human life and human existence is a precious thing. For me, any effort that enables people to live a more human life, and to enjoy the life we have been given, is worthwhile.”

In 2016, the Casa Cornelia Law Center served over 2,400 children, women, and men through its Asylum Program; Victims of Crime Program; Children’s Program; and other relief efforts including support for Deferred Action for Child Arrivals (DACA).

Again, congratulations to Sister Ann!
