‘Proud to Be a Woman’ — Reflections Through Art at SC LAMP

SC LAMP is a co-sponsored ministry of the Society of the Holy Child Jesus

At South Central LAMP, the women in our Family Literacy Program engaged in a creative exploration of the question: What does it mean to be a woman? Through painting, poetry, and pottery, they gave shape to their identities, hopes, and lived experiences.

Some of the words were their own; others were quotes that spoke to their hearts. One canvas read, “Women, when they love, put something divine into that love. Such love is like the sun that gives life to all of nature.” Another woman shared through her poetry, “To you, woman who gives life and leaves your sorrows behind with your magic and your courage.” Their work captured the depth and complexity of womanhood—passionate, intelligent, resilient, and rooted in faith. A message from one participant summed it up simply: “Smile—today is an excellent day to be proud of who you are.”

This photo shows the women proudly sharing their creations—paintings, sculptures, and spoken word—in a space filled with pride, healing, and connection. At South Central LAMP, we believe in the power of creative expression.

When women are given space to reflect and share, their voices become a source of strength for the whole community.
