In October 2024, the American Province launched Graced Moments, where every month, a Holy Child Sister shares a “grace-filled” experience that has influenced her life. The project flows from the Society’s mission “to help others to believe that God lives and acts in them and in our world.”
We thank Mary Michaud, a Sister of the Holy Child Jesus for 57 years, for offering her “graced moment.”
Feel free to leave a comment for Sister Mary at the bottom of this page. Thank you.

“While I was nourishing the plants with the water,
I realized that ‘Sophia’ (God) waters me with her
presence throughout each day.”
During the Summer of 2021, I was reading “Braiding Sweetgrass.”
There were various themes throughout the book that nurtured my inner being.
One of the themes was “Reciprocity.” This activity is seen in the environment, in nature, amongst the animals, and in the vegetation of the land.

As I was watering my plants in July, I experienced a special moment of reciprocity.
While I was nourishing the plants with the water, I realized that Sophia (God) waters me with her presence throughout each day.
I became cognizant of the need to nurture reciprocity with Sophia.
Taking more time …
to listen,
to appreciate the silence, and
to be more attuned to Sophia’s presence in my life.
I’m nurtured in the delights of nature, in my encounters with others throughout the day, during my daily walks along the waterfront, in times of consolation and dryness and in the unexpected surprises. Sophia’s presence is a gift that I continually treasure each day.
“It is not presumption to have hope and joy
and confidence in God’s grace.”
-Venerable Cornelia Connelly

Beautiful, Mary. Thanks for sharing. Rosemarie
Your reflection reminded me of how much nature reminds me of God’s presence. I am blessed to live next to the private part of Morris Arboretum. It is filled with trees, bushes, and creatures of all shapes and sizes: deer, foxes, chipmunks, rabbits and birds. The birds are waking me daily at 4:30. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Thank you so much Mary. That is a wonderful gift to us all and one I can share with many friends. You are a treasure. Lots of love and prayers ❤ Agnes
