Cornelia Connelly urged us to “meet the wants of the age.” Today, Casa Cornelia Law Center embodies that call through its Community Legal Response Project (CLRP), created to address the urgent and evolving needs of immigrants in San Diego.

The CLRP provides short-term legal consultations, limited-scope representation, and community education for individuals detained by immigration authorities or at risk of detention. In times of crisis, when immediate guidance is essential, CLRP ensures no one is left to face the system alone.

A vital part of this project, which complements CLRP, is the newly launched Immigration Legal Services Coalition of San Diego (ILSC), and where Casa Cornelia has partnered with Jewish Family Service. ILSC offers free, short-term legal services and connects callers to ongoing representation when appropriate. The shared hotline (858-751-7553) ensures that help is available at a moment’s notice. Casa Cornelia takes a lead role in providing coverage through CLRP, walking with clients in their first, most vulnerable moments.

Beyond individual cases, CLRP also extends to know-your-rights education and training for immigrant communities and service organizations. By equipping people with knowledge, Casa Cornelia fosters resilience and safeguards dignity against the uncertainty of shifting federal policies.

The CLRP furthers Casa Cornelia’s long-standing, full-scope legal representation by offering a rapid and compassionate response to immediate needs. In meeting the needs of the times, Casa Cornelia remains steadfast in its mission: upholding human rights, ensuring due process, and restoring hope to the most vulnerable. Casa Cornelia is grateful for the SHCJ’s support of all efforts to ensure Justice with Compassion.
