On April 4th, Hope students gathered for a vibrant celebration. The Black History and Cultural Celebration and Music Tribute featured student-led presentations on influential Black leaders like Barack Obama, Madame C.J. Walker, and Nelson Mandela. Students also explored African folklore and highlighted the legacy of historically Black colleges, demonstrating pride in Black history and heritage.

The event featured dynamic performances from the 5th and 7th grades, led by music teacher Mr. Ali. The 5th grade performed Songs for the People by Frances Ellen Watkins Harper, which Mr. Ali set to music. Their performance blended poetry and song, offering a powerful message of hope and unity.

The 7th grade brought the energy with a traditional West African drum piece, showcasing their sense of rhythm and collaboration. They followed with a cultural dance performance of the Eskista, a traditional Ethiopian dance known for its expressive shoulder movements. Students performed both regional and national styles, adding a rich cultural dimension to the celebration.

Throughout the day, students enjoyed treats and time together as a community. The celebration created space for creativity, cultural pride, and connection.

Hope’s Black History and Cultural Celebration was more than a school event – it was a joyful and thoughtful reflection on the contributions of Black leaders, artists, and traditions. From the classroom to the stage, students led the way in honoring the past and celebrating the present. It was a proud day for the Hope community and a reminder of the power of student voice and expression.
