Not I, Lord, not I………………..<\/p>\n
I’ve failed him
\nHe turned to look at me,
\nAll he wanted was a look,
\nHe didn’t ask for words or actions..
\nJust a look of understanding, recognition, friendship.
\nAnd I’ve failed him.
\nHe called me in his need
\nand I couldn’t answer his call.
\nHe needed me.
\nI’ve failed him.<\/p>\n
I remember the Lake, back home in Galilee.
\nI only struggled with those nets , to please him. To humour him.
\n“Anything you say, Lord.” I said.
\nThen there I was, the boat heavy with fish.
\nAnd that was the beginning.<\/p>\n
I told him,
\nI told him I was no good.
\nI told him to go \u2013 and leave me alone.
\nI’m just an ordinary working fellow\u2014It’s not fair to expect things from me.
\nI’m a fisherman- don’t you understand.<\/p>\n
“That’s just what I want” he said.<\/p>\n
We had some good times together.
\nHard times, too, with the crowds pressing all around us.
\nAnd not a moment’s peace.
\nI missed the nights at sea.
\nThe tug of the wind on the boat’s sail.
\nThat was a look he gave me that night.
\n“Come” he said
\nAnd there I was,
\nWith nothing but wind and waves about me.
\nI knew him then alright.
\n“Man of little faith” he said
\nas he caught my hand in his.<\/p>\n
What would he say tonight?
\n“Do not be afraid” ??
\nO Lord, I’ve failed You!
\nMy friend, no he’s not my friend.
\nMy Lord and Master,
\nSon of the Living God
\nChrist.
\nThat’s what I called him once.<\/p>\n
He looked at me that night.
\nI was his man then!
\nHe looked at me tonight
\n“I do not know the man” I said.<\/p>\n
If only I could tell him once again.
\n“You know, Lord,
\nYou know all things.
