It was a project devised and led by pupils and supported by staff. It was thought that fruit trees should be planted so that pupils could reap the harvest of their hard work.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.shcj.org\/european\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2021\/10\/Image_009.png\" width=\"166\" height=\"198\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 166px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 166\/198;\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>The focal point of the planting is a tree in commemoration of the 175th anniversary of the Society of The Holy Child Jesus. The overall project would be environmentally beneficial through the planting of trees as a carbon sink.<\/p>\n<p>In celebration of the 175th anniversary of the Society of the Holy Child Jesus, the school selected and planted a commemorative tree, a Gleditsia Sunburst. It\u2019s vivid yellow summer bloom contrasts beautifully with the predominantly darker green Forest School woodland.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"figure alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.shcj.org\/european\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2021\/10\/Image_003.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"234\" height=\"312\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 234px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 234\/312;\" \/><figcaption>Holy Child Sisters (l to r) Marguerite Bouteloup, Judith Lancaster, Maria Dinnendahl, Angela O&#8217;Connor, and Jean Sinclair at Mayfield School.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A brass plaque is positioned by this tree to mark the anniversary, which reads, &#8220;To commemorate the 175th anniversary of The Society of the Holy Child Jesus This tree, Gleditsia Sunburst Was planted on 9th June 2021.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>At <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayfieldgirls.org\/\">Mayfield School<\/a> in East Sussex, on St Teresa\u2019s Day, European Province leader Angela O\u2019Connor, SHCJ, who was down at Mayfield, was invited to cut the ribbon round a tree planted by the students.
