We give thanks, too, for the spiritual exercises \u2026 the examination of consciousness \u2026 rules for the discernment of spirits to help us be honest, generous disciples and friends of Jesus \u2026 and for an apostolic spirituality that undergirds and nourishes our daily quest for God and love for the world.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><b>You\u2019re probably aware that Pope Leo chose the theme of \u201cformation in discernment\u201d as the July prayer intention for his Worldwide Network of Prayer. Maybe you\u2019ve also read his personal prayer for discernment, or viewed one of the several video renditions available online since July 3rd.<\/b><\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.shcj.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/St.-Ignatius-statue.png\" width=\"287\" height=\"204\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 287px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 287\/204;\" \/><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p4\">In the Vatican press release for the prayer and prayer intention, <b>Cristobal Fones, SJ, <\/b>the Chilean director of the Worldwide Network of Prayer is quoted as saying, <b>\u201cformation in discernment is fundamental to navigate a complex world. This includes prayer, personal reflection, the study of Scripture and spiritual direction. Cultivating a deep relationship with Jesus is most important. In this way, we can recognize his voice in the midst of so many other voices in the world, and have the clarity necessary to make decisions based on more human proposals and horizons.\u201d <\/b><span class=\"s2\">Vatican press statement, July 3, 2025<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">Although we\u2019ve already come to the end of July, Pope Leo\u2019s prayer for discernment and his call for ongoing formation in discernment for today\u2019s world is meant for all of us \u2014 young, old, and in-between \u2014 beyond this month.
