Volunteer Opportunities at South Central Los Angeles Ministry (SC LAMP)

SC LAMP is a sponsored ministry of the Holy Child Sisters.

Years ago, SC LAMP was created out of love for the women and children in South Central Los Angeles. Our agency was started by a group of women religious who met with the women and children in our community and recognized that while they faced difficulties, they were not victims.  (The Holy Child Sisters are one of eight religious communities that founded SC LAMP in 1992.)

In creating South Central LAMP, the Sisters believed they could help the community overcome difficult situations and make their lives better. This is one of the many reasons why I love what the Sisters did. In their desire to create a space for the families, they saw each person for who they were. They didn’t define them by their problems or needs. The Sisters saw their humanity and thus, created an agency that didn’t save them but empowered them.

Today, this value continues to drive our programs. Our motivation continues to be the self-reliance, self-advocacy, and strengthening of the women and children we serve. We are humbled by the work started so many years ago and proudly continue in the footsteps of the Sisters.

We invite you to join our mission and continue to the work of the Sisters by volunteering at SC LAMP.

This is one of the many reasons why I love what the Sisters did.
In their desire to create a space for the families, they saw each person for who they were.
They didn’t define them by their problems or needs.
