From Teen Leader to Lead Teacher at Providence Center

David Chiles – Executive Director, Providence Center

Providence Center is a sponsored ministry of the Society of the Holy Child Jesus.

Vee is a familiar face from the Providence Center website, newsletters, and events. She began her Providence Center journey as a Teen Leader years ago and has become a fixture in our Youth Programs. Now, after years of training and skill-building, Vee has taken on a new role within the after-school Power Program — Lead Teacher!

Each afternoon, Vee greets her group of second- and third-grade students with a warm smile. She inspires them through joyful games and artistic projects, and she is always there to give a supportive nudge when their homework gets tough or when they’ve had a hard day at school.

Vee’s connection with her students is what has kept her coming back to Providence Center, year after year. She explains, “The kids, you get to build a bond with them. It’s very cool to see that they have someone special that they can count on as well.” In addition to her hard work at Providence Center, Vee is keeping up with her love of photography and pursuing a college degree. “My major is Behavioral Health and Human Services, and I’m really passionate about it. I’ve had all As and Bs throughout college. It was tough because there was a lot on my plate, but I’m starting to get the hang of college, and it feels easier to me, thanks to Providence.”

At Providence Center, our goal is to help children to grow into confident Teen Leaders, and to help Teen Leaders to grow into empowered changemakers in the Fairhill community. Vee says it best: “It’s like a home, but they still try to help you grow wings so that you can fly other places.”
