Washington, DC

Working in partnership with the Religious of Jesus and Mary and the National Council of Negro Women, the Society opened the Washington Middle School For Girls (WMSG) in 1998. The school provides a caring and safe environment for young girls who are living in an underserved urban area and are at risk of leaving school prematurely.

The dream for this school began in 1996, when women from the three organizations, who now sponsor the school, realized they all had the same dream of founding a school for girls in a needy area of Washington, D.C. In 1997, they began an after school program and the following year, they opened the middle school. Today, the Washington Middle School For Girls serves approximately 200 girls in grades four through eight on two campuses in the Anacostia area of Washington, D.C.
